Culinary experiences can be deeply enriching and for those that love discovering moments worth repeating, this episode is sure to delight. We are honored to host Miguel Somoza, who once cooked for the British Royal family and now brings his culinary artistry to Newport, Rhode Island, as executive chef of Flora.
Miguel's journey began in Madrid, Spain, where one of his fondest memories was making blueberry jam with his father straight from branch to table. That early passion led him to work alongside renowned Michelin starred chefs, Anton Mosimann and Michel Bras, and eventually to serve as private chef for Sir Richard Branson on his private island.
After years of cooking around the world, Miguel returned to Newport, a place that holds personal significance as it is where he met his wife, Katherine, 25 years earlier. At Flora, he marries Mediterranean influences with the best of New England Fair crafting a seasonal menu rooted in local sourcing and bold imaginative flavors.
His passion for food is only rivaled by his joy in ensuring every guest leaves delighted. Flora has become a personal favorite of Anne’s, not just for the meal, but for the atmosphere, the hospitality, and the sense of place that it creates.
